The Fondazione Potenza Tamini, in collaboration with the Diocese of Cremona and CHIESA OGGI, is honoured to announce the presentation of the book “Gianmaria Potenza: Cattedrale di Cremona”, edited by Valeria Loddo. The event will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 5:30 PM at the Ateneo Veneto in Venice, Campo San Fantin 1897.
Published in 2024 by the Fondazione Potenza Tamini in association with CHIESA OGGI, this volume offers a unique perspective on Gianmaria Potenza’s works for the Cathedral of Cremona, completed in 2022 as part of the liturgical adaptation of the presbytery. The exquisite photographs by Paolo Mazzini highlight Potenza’s contribution through a focused exploration of light, a central element in these artistic creations.
The book also delves into the themes discussed in numerous meetings between the designers and the commissioning parties that preceded the realization of Potenza’s works for the Cathedral. Art Historian Francesca Flores D’Arcais provides context with her text “Il Duomo di Cremona: Riflessioni sulla Conservazione e l’Adeguamento”, which addresses the complex issue of contemporary interventions within historical settings and clarifies the circumstances that led to the creation of Potenza’s new sacred furnishings.
Notable contributors to the book, including Bishop Antonio Napolioni and Don Gianluca Gaiardi, Director of the Diocesan Museum of Cremona, offer interpretations of the new works as a coherent and historically informed addition. They demonstrate how contemporary art possesses expressive capabilities and formal means to convey spirituality. Additionally, architect PhD Carla Zito provides a qualitative and material analysis of the Maestro’s works, illustrating how the new sacred furnishings integrate seamlessly with the Cathedral’s rich and layered context.
The presentation will feature remarks by the book’s authors, artist Gianmaria Potenza, Caterina Parrello, Editorial Director of CHIESA OGGI, and Fr. Lino Breda.
