CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: MUSICIANS AND COMPOSERS
Can art be transformed into music? As part of the “Gianmaria Potenza. Elaborating New Codes” exhibition, the Fondazione Potenza Tamini is launching the 2025 Young Talents Project, inviting young composers, performers, and improvisers to translate Gianmaria Potenza’s works into sound. After the 2024 edition, which focused on photography through the lens of Paolo Mazzini, this year’s project shifts its focus to the intersection of art and music. This call is a unique opportunity to experiment and engage in a stimulating interdisciplinary challenge.
The goal of the call is not to create a traditional musical accompaniment to the artworks but to craft an authentic artistic translation that unveils new perspectives on Potenza’s work and expands the creative horizons of participants. Potenza’s visual language offers a distinct “grammar” that can be interpreted musically. The challenge lies in translating the rhythm of his forms and the modular structure of his pieces into a cohesive and original sonic language.
The call includes images of the artworks featured in the musical project. To view the works in person, you can visit the Gianmaria Potenza. Elaborating New Codes exhibition at the Palazzo Ferro Fini in Venice, starting May 14, 2025. Admission is free, and all the artworks on display are part of the project. The winners will be able to perform on December 9, 2025, at the B. Marcello Conservatory in Venice. They will receive a €1,000 cash prize and a three-day stay in Venice to deepen their research, visit the artist’s studio and collaborate with him.
Eligibility
This call is open to:
- Musicians and composers performing their music (individuals or groups) residing in Italy.
- Young people under 36 years old (for groups, the average age must not exceed 35).
- There are no restrictions on musical genre or instrumentation— all styles of music are welcome!
