The Potenza Archive collects Gianmaria Potenza’s early drawings, sketches, and works from his formative years at the Art Institute. These pieces, the first seeds of Potenza’s distinctive artistic language, are characterised by highly stylised figures, a geometric order, and a playful representation of subjects, offering a glimpse into the artist’s creative evolution.
The Potenza Archive meticulously documents Gianmaria Potenza’s prolific participation in prestigious national and international exhibitions through a rich collection of photographs, posters, and flyers.
Beyond his artistic pursuits, Gianmaria Potenza was a visionary entrepreneur. In 1968, he established the glassworks La Murrina, a venture that stands as a landmark of experimentation and innovation in the history of Murano glass. The Potenza Archive preserves rare catalogues from 1968-1975 and the artist’s private collection of glassworks from that era. This collection encompasses works from experimental phases and iconic pieces crafted by the master glassmaker Lino Tagliapietra.
The Potenza Archive also collects notes and documents that trace Gianmaria Potenza’s numerous commissioned works. These significant commissions from large companies, Italian banks, naval groups, hotels, and churches further solidified the artist’s success.
Another important chapter of his artistic career concerns the sacred artworks created for numerous Italian churches and private clients. Additionally, between the 1960s and 1970s, he conceived and crafted furnishings and sacred vestments for the Holy See under Paul VI’s pontificate.
